Hunting for That “Special” Event Venue in Hong Kong
As a team that produces countless corporate events across Hong Kong for inbound overseas planners, we hear one question more than any other:
“Can you recommend a truly special venue? We’d love to avoid the usual hotel ballroom or standard function room.”
We understand the request – and we would love to fulfil your wish!
Here’s the honest (and slightly sobering) truth: for most corporate events, especially those hosting 100+ guests, finding a genuinely distinctive venue that still delivers a smooth, professional experience is incredibly challenging. Hong Kong’s sky-high real estate costs mean the city simply doesn’t offer the cavernous restaurants, grand old mansions, converted warehouses, or castle-like spaces you might easily find in other cities.
When alternative venues do exist, they usually come with extra costs. A modest power shortfall, missing cargo lift, or lack of in-house catering can quickly inflate production costs. You may end up paying both a venue hire fee and full catering charges, pushing the total budget 20% to 100% higher than a traditional hotel or convention centre option.
That said, there are a handful of wonderful, character-filled venues in Hong Kong that can work for the right event. In my next post, I’ll share our favourite alternative venues and how they can be used.
Stay tuned — and in the meantime, if you’re planning an event in Hong Kong, let’s talk! We’re experts at matching ambitious ideas with realistic (and memorable) possibilities.
