Special Event Venues in Hong Kong: Distinctive Spaces for Brand Activations

I know, I know. We just posted a blog cautioning event planners to avoid seeking “special” (non-hotel/non-convention centre) venues in Hong Kong. (They are usually more expensive, not set up for major events etc.) Having said that, here is a blog post that lists a few venues we’ve used that can work in the right situation.

At Chunky Onion Productions, we know that the right venue elevates an activation or staff gathering from ordinary to memorable. Hong Kong offers a remarkable range of spaces that blend iconic views, cultural depth, creative energy, and refined hospitality. Here is a look at several standout options where we have produced successful events —sky100, M+, Hutong, Aqua Restaurant & Bar, Asia Society Hong Kong Centre, SOHO House Hong Kong, and PMQ Qube—highlighting their strengths for corporate events alongside practical considerations.

sky100

Located on the 100th floor of the International Commerce Centre (ICC) in West Kowloon, sky100 is Hong Kong’s highest indoor event venue, soaring 393 metres with unobstructed 360-degree panoramic views of the skyline and Victoria Harbour. The pillarless, flexible spaces (scalable from roughly 1,600 to 16,000 square feet) accommodate everything from intimate gatherings to large cocktail receptions of up to 1,000 guests or seated banquets of around 500. Floor-to-ceiling glass floods the space with natural light by day and frames glittering night views, while advanced features such as 3D digital projection, LED walls, and a “time tunnel” create strong branding opportunities. Flexible catering partnerships and excellent transport links (MTR, Airport Express) make it highly practical for corporate activations and staff events that need genuine “wow” factor.

Drawbacks: The height and indoor glass enclosure can make photography challenging due to reflections, and weather can significantly affect the vista. The venue has been undergoing major renovation (with updates pending), which may limit availability. Full or partial buyouts command premium pricing, and the scale can feel less intimate for very small groups. Finally, be prepared to pay for the venue rental and for catering which is not included in the rental hire fee.

M+

Hong Kong’s museum of visual culture in the West Kowloon Cultural District provides distinctive, architecturally striking spaces with panoramic harbour views. Options include the expansive Main Hall, Horizon Terrace (ideal for cocktails or banquets overlooking the skyline), the dramatic Grand Stair (suitable for forums, screenings or presentations), and flexible learning hubs or smaller rooms. Events can be held outside public hours or on Mondays, allowing exclusive use of the cultural setting. Professional event specialists and high-quality culinary options support everything from corporate dinners and networking to team activities and product activations, wrapping the experience in contemporary art and design.

Drawbacks: Availability is constrained by museum operations and public programming, so exclusive hire is typically limited to non-opening times. Certain spaces may involve heritage or architectural restrictions on set-up and production, and pricing reflects the prestige of a world-class cultural institution. Access and logistics in the cultural district can require extra coordination for large groups or heavy production. Again: Catering fees must be added to the venue hire fee.

Hutong

Perched on the top floor of H Zentre in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hutong delivers theatrical Northern Chinese cuisine (including signature Peking duck) against glamorous interiors of glowing red lanterns and sweeping harbour views. The venue offers private dining rooms, bars, and an outdoor Moon Gate terrace, and can be hired exclusively for up to around 300 guests. It works especially well for sophisticated dinners, celebrations, or corporate receptions that prioritise atmosphere, cuisine, and views. An experienced events team helps tailor menus and recommend suppliers for a polished experience.

Drawbacks: As a working restaurant, full exclusive hire may require advance booking and can involve minimum spends. Capacity is more limited than pure event halls for very large activations, and the theatrical, high-energy style may not suit every corporate brief. Window seating and specific private rooms are subject to availability.

Aqua Restaurant & Bar

Also in H Zentre, Aqua combines Italian and Japanese cuisine in a striking mirrored, water-inspired interior with expansive panoramic harbour views and outdoor terraces. It can be hired exclusively for up to roughly 200 seated or 340 standing guests, making it versatile for business lunches, private dinners, after-parties, or larger corporate events. The dramatic design and dual bars create strong visual impact for activations, while tailored menus and event support ensure a seamless experience.

Drawbacks: Similar to Hutong, it operates as a restaurant, so exclusive use involves coordination around service hours and minimum requirements. The glamorous aesthetic and capacity suit mid-to-large events better than intimate workshops, and production flexibility may be more limited than in dedicated event spaces.

Asia Society Hong Kong Centre

Set in the beautifully restored Former Explosives Magazine in Admiralty—a 1.3-hectare heritage site with Grade I and II historic buildings—this cultural hub functions as an urban oasis. Indoor and outdoor spaces of varying sizes support conferences, receptions, dinners, film screenings, exhibitions, and more, blending history, greenery, and city views. It offers a thoughtful, intellectually engaging environment ideal for staff events, cultural activations, or gatherings that benefit from a sense of place and heritage.

Drawbacks: There is no on-site parking (nearest is Pacific Place), and coach access is restricted. Heritage status can impose limitations on decorations, structures, and production elements. Availability is influenced by the centre’s own programming, and the site may feel more intimate or contemplative than high-energy party venues.

SOHO House Hong Kong

Located in a high-rise in Sheung Wan, this members’ club offers stylish, creative spaces including the open-plan House Studio (up to 120 seated / 220 standing), screening rooms, private dining areas, and rooftop/pool options with harbour views. Some spaces are available for public hire; others are members-only. The design-forward, relaxed-yet-sophisticated atmosphere suits brand activations, away-days, parties, presentations, and creative staff events, with in-house catering and AV support.

Drawbacks: Capacity is moderate rather than large-scale, and the club environment may come with house rules or membership-related considerations. Pricing for private hire (particularly the Studio) reflects the exclusive positioning.

PMQ Qube

In the revitalised former Police Married Quarters (a Grade III historic site) in Central’s SoHo district, the Qube is a contemporary multi-purpose hall of approximately 500 m² with 5 m headroom, linked to courtyard and marketplace areas. Capacity reaches around 450 participants. The creative, design-focused campus—filled with studios, shops, and open spaces—makes it excellent for exhibitions, conferences, fashion shows, markets, performances, banquets, or cocktail parties that want an artistic, community-oriented feel.

Drawbacks: As a shared creative hub, the surrounding activity and public access can reduce exclusivity compared with fully private venues. Heritage and site rules may limit certain production elements, and the open, industrial-leaning character may require more styling to achieve a highly polished corporate look. Logistics in the dense Central location can be busier at peak times.

In conclusion…

These venues each bring a distinct character—whether soaring height, amazing views, cultural prestige, culinary theatre, heritage calm, creative cool, or design energy—that can powerfully support activations and staff experiences. Success depends on matching the brief (guest numbers, desired atmosphere, event production needs, and budget) to the space. At Chunky Onion Productions we are always happy to help assess fit, navigate logistics, and produce events that maximise each venue’s strengths while thoughtfully managing any constraints. Hong Kong’s special venues remain among the most inspiring in the region for creating lasting impressions.

Happy venue hunting!
