Frequently asked questions
At Chunky Onion Productions, we create themed parties that feel immersive, stylish, and actually fun — whether it’s a birthday party, anniversary celebration or a corporate event with a twist.
Some of the themes we regularly bring to life include:
- Decade parties (80s, 90s, Y2K, and beyond)
- Masquerade and black-tie affairs
- Great Gatsby / Roaring Twenties
- Casino nights
- Tropical and destination-inspired themes
- Hollywood and awards-night glamour
- Neon, glow, and after-dark parties
- Fully custom themes designed around your brand, product, or wild idea
If you can dream it (and even if you’re not sure what you want yet), we can build it. From subtle and sophisticated to bold and over-the-top, we’ll match the theme to your guests, venue, and the kind of night you want people to remember.
Themed parties can range from stylish and simple to fully immersive productions — so the budget really depends on how far you want to take the experience.
Key cost areas usually include:
- Venue – Location and any hire or minimum spend fees
- Catering & drinks – Food, bar, and any themed F&B touches. Most venues will include venue hiring fees and F&B in a package. But this will be your most significant cost.
- Theme build & décor – Props, styling, stage, table decorations, floral, and visual details that make the theme feel real
- Entertainment – DJ, performers, hosts, or special acts
- Lighting & technical – Atmosphere lighting, sound, and any AV needs
- Extras – Photography, guest props or costumes, and a small contingency
At Chunky Onion Productions, we help you decide where to invest for maximum impact so the theme feels intentional without unnecessary spend. Share your guest count, preferred vibe, and rough budget range, and we’ll help you build a plan that delivers a memorable night.
The type of entertainment depends on the tastes of your guests and on the vibe you want for the party.
Strong entertainment options often include:
- DJs who understand the theme and know how to read the crowd
- Live Bands that can interact with guests and get people on the dancefloor
- Dancers who can kick off the evening with an amazing floorshow
- Roving entertainment a close-up magician or two-piece duet work well during the cocktail
The key is choosing entertainment that matches both the theme and your guests. A Great Gatsby party might call for a live jazz band or elegant performers, while a neon or 90s party may work better with a high-energy DJ and bold visual acts.
At Chunky Onion Productions, we help you select and coordinate entertainment that feels intentional, well-paced, and right for the night you want to create.
The right venue can make or break a themed party — some spaces fight the theme, while others help bring it to life.
Here is our advice on venues:
- Hotel ballrooms and function rooms – Flexible, reliable, and easy to transform with décor and lighting. These are the best venues for hosting themed parties
- Private members’ clubs – These venues provide excellent value for money and are large enough for themed parties. We highly recommend private members’ clubs
- Industrial and warehouse-style spaces – We advise against these spaces because they are seldom set up for large-scale events.
- Creative studios, galleries, and alternative venues – Strong character and a more unique feel. Unfortunately, these spaces are seldom set up to host events for over 100 guests
- Rooftop and outdoor spaces – Ideal for tropical, open-air, or sunset-to-night themes . The risk here is obviously weather. Even a light drizzle can cancel an event
- Restaurants – Are typically not a good option in Hong Kong where they tend to be small and unaccustomed to hosting events. There are some noteable exceptions.
At Chunky Onion Productions, we help you match the venue to the theme, guest experience, and practical needs (like capacity and how much we can transform the space). Tell us the vibe you’re going for and we’ll shortlist options that actually fit.
Yes, we can.
At Chunky Onion Productions, we create custom videos that add a personal and memorable touch to your event. This can include:
- Tribute or celebration videos for the guest of honour
- Same-day highlight videos that can be shown before the end of the night
- Welcome or story-style videos that set the tone
- Short, polished clips designed for awards, speeches, or special reveals
Whether it’s a heartfelt montage, a fun and light-hearted edit, or a high-energy recap, we’ll match the tone to the person and the occasion so it feels genuine — not generic.
Just let us know who you’re celebrating and the vibe you want, and we’ll take care of the rest.
